Participatory Urbanism Show: What Would You Like in This Space?

Architect Manuel Avila Ochoa's experiment in what he calls "participatory urbanism" has generated dozens of comments and suggestions online and in notebooks around the neighborhood, and attracted the attention of international architecture, arts, and design magazine Domus in the process. On Friday, April 22nd, he'll unveil his community-informed proposal at LaunchPad from 6 - 8pm (click on the flyer, above, for more info). If you haven't seen the project yet, you can find all the details on the Participatory Urbanism blog.

  1. This isn't related to this post, but I just wanted to vent something here.

This is the Twitter account of Tony Fisher, owner of Pulp and Bean and Fisher's grocery store: http://twitter.com/#!/FishersNYC

Now, I know some people say Tony is a big advocate of change and progress in CH.

But ever since his days talking smack about Breuklin's "organic" items and causing all that drama, I have been suspicious.

Look at this (somewhat professional?) Twitter account! Tony spends a lot of his time mocking "chickenheads" (which I learned from Urban Dictionary means: a grimy, hood, weed smokin, drunk on weekdays, welfare as a lifestyle, down for whatever and whenever chick that is every negative black stereotype in the book) and hipsters.

    This dude is racist.

  2. Wow, you're right --- it's bad. Utter disdain for the people in this neighborhood & outright racism against some.

This is where the chicken heads buy lucys and colt 45 http://yfrog.com/2pl83j

A chicken head was hitting her head. She said her weave hurt. I think she's just having a reaction to the fried chicken.

  3. If someone is so discriminatory against people on EBT or black people, why is he doing business in CH? Ugh, his remarks are awful. This guy doesn't want to unite the community - he is drawing clearer boundaries and adding to the tension.
