Walking around Brooklyn with a camera and a pen.
Just walked by the former Oaxaca Taqueria, which is getting a festive red paint job in preparation for its reopening, under new management, as a taqueria. The folks outside said only that it will be "very different" than the previous one.
let's hope the biggest difference is "better tacos." Seriously, if you're going to open up a taco place this close to Chavelas, you really need to step it up.
Isn't Chavelas charging $3 for a taco? I would never EVER pay that much. $1.00-$1.50 is all you need for a delicious taco. Maybe this new place will have better prices because it's not as fancy?
here's hoping this place is cheap AND delicious. I was really just commenting on the taste, as I don't remember the prices being that much different between Oaxaca and Chavelas, though I usually only get tacos at Chavelas during their $2 happy hour. Is there a place around here that sells $1 tacos?
Oh, yes, taste is very important. I won't buy a gross taco even if it's a dollar, haha. If they ARE the same price, competition will be veerrry tough. Annnnd sadly no, no dollar tacos around here. :[ I usually get them from Mexican take out restaurants around the city. If Oaxaca has cheap and delicious tacos I will probably be eat there all the time. Right now I eat lots n lots of $2 dumplings from Roti and Dumpling or $2 Jamaican patties from Golden Krust! Mmmm
I'd say $3 is the norm for tacos around here. That said, at the next Community Board 8 meeting, a place called "Gueros Inc." at 605 Prospect Place (so this location) is applying for a liquor license.
Two words will actually get me in the door: NACHOS and MARGARITAS.
Yes Chavela overpriced
