Monday News and Links: Stork, Bella Greens

 - Stork, Franklin's soon-to-be store for little ones, hoisted its awning over the weekend, and is still aiming for an early-March opening. You can follow their progress on their site, which is acting as a construction blog/anticipation-generator at the moment.

- Right across the Avenue, Bella Greens has added soups and wraps to their menu, and as of last Thursday, they're now offering bagels from Bagels by the Park in the mornings. Their salads remain delicious, sizable, and only six dollars, so if you haven't tried one yet, swing by.

- In what might be sadder news, A Slice of Brooklyn was inexplicably closed when I went by earlier this evening. It's a tough economy out there, but I hope they're ok - the lady and I have a great affinity for the Slice because their grand opening coincided with our first day on the Avenue, and because Judy and Elwin are such nice folks. Anyone know anything more?

- Finally, Fox5 reports that 108 guns were taken off the street at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church over the weekend as part of the NYPD-clergy gun buyback program.

  1. Rumor on the Ave is that Slice of BK is going out of business. It's been said that they're trying to sell their lease for many $$.

  2. To be honest I'm not surprised about Slice of BK. My partner and I tried going there a few times but the pizza was never very good. The last straw was when she had to sit and wait almost an hour for a plain pizza when they weren't even busy. It's a shame because it could have been a great place.

  3. A couple of months ago, we discussed take out pizza on Brooklynian.

Myself and another poster both commented that the pizza took a long time to arrive and was not very good.

The new place, Pete Zaaz, appears to be thriving. Hopefully Slice of Brooklyn got a good price on their lease....

  6. Slice of brooklyn is definitely hurt by its poor service and poor quality of food. I hope it's done and a better place moves in.

  7. Slice of Brooklyn is great!!! Yeah it takes a while but the people are always nice the pizza is good and it is cheap! I'm going to be extremely disappointed if it goes.

  8. I've never had a bad experience with Slice of Brooklyn. The delivery is always on time and the service in the restaurant is always friendly. Franklin really doesn't have any other fast and cheap pizza options--Barboncino is great but it is neither fast nor cheap, nor do they have slices to go. I hope Slice of Brooklyn gets it together, with all the growth happening it would be a shame to see an older business fail.

  9. Last time I went, I ordered Buffalo Chicken. They gave me BBQ Chicken and then when I asked about it, they told me it was Buffalo Chicken. That kind of sucked.
