Ongoing investigation into early morning shooting continues

  1. Any further info on the shooting?

  2. I heard multiple rounds after a fight (the street markers say 16 bullets). The police said that no one died, but there was blood in the street and an ambulance came early this morning. The police responded quickly.

  3. Brooklynian has photos from the Daily News. Guy was apparently shot in thigh and butt.

  4. It is time for the non-renewal of this bar's liquor license. There was a nearly identical shooting of two people outside of this bar a couple of summers ago. Apparently, their liquor license is up for renewal in October. Unless the process is completely corrupt, I cannot imagine why their license would be renewed. It is only a matter of time before more patrons and/or bystanders are shot or killed. This time, a stray bullet hit a refrigerator at Nam's. Next time, it could be a pedestrian.

  5. Which bar are you talking about?

  6. In the 4 years we've lived across the street from 95 South, we've been woken countless times in the wee hours by arguments, screaming, cursing, beer bottles breaking and (on a few occasions) gunshots. Friday and Saturday nights are the worst and the noise, loitering and violence always escalate in the warmer months.

Any time we've called the cops, we haven't even had to give them the address. They know exactly what establishment we're talking about and have usually already received a few complaints before ours.

  7. I've been on Franklin for over 15 years and never has the violence been worse than when 95 south opened. It was so bad the year they opened, I considered leaving my huge rent stabilized apartment...... It was that bad......every night. Even the after 6 club (a known dealer hangout) never caused so many problems. 95 south needs to go. I have petitioned the community board numerous times

  9. I'm originally from Bklyn and before 95 South even opened you couldn't even walk down Franklin passing Lincoln or St. Johns in broad daylight w/o fear of shots ringing out. Franklin park is there on St. Johns which is clear sign area has indeed gotten better. The ignorance of people are to blame, not the establishment!

  10. I just wrote Letitia James (our councilwoman) an email requesting she not renew 95 Souths' liquor license. Her email is: ljames@council.nyc.gov

I am a pro business, free market enthusiast, but this place has been a constant public safety issue and an overall detriment to the neighborhood. I agree it is not the fault of the business itself, but when business doesn't serve the community it is in, it starts to forfeit rights.

  11. More muggings, robberies, breakins, drunk white people happened as a result of Franklin Park. You people are a bunch of hypocritical bitches.

  12. You are kidding about Franklin Park being a source of crime in the neighborhood, right?

    1. No, I saw someone get shot in front of there in the fall.

  13. Guy Must be kidding!! Only true part of that statement might be drunk white people since Franklin Park although I doubt that too- lol Im sure you white folks are not going around mugging people to get money for your next brewskie!

  14. I really would love to sit down and talk with the person who thinks franklin park produces white muggers.

I wonder what percentage of the crime in the crow hill area is perpetrated by black people vs. their make up of the overall population of crow hill. Something tells me they are over represented in muggings, violent crime, and gun crimes.

It is time for the black community to own up to their short comings and rise above it.

  15. this bar ...front for drugs no doubt ,has been a nuisance since it opened ..and the 'garbage' THAT IT DRAWS are a stain on this community .

    1. Have you even been in "95 South"? Calling people "garbage" brings a whole new level of nastiness to this.

    2. Said it draws garbage, not that everyone there is garbage. To think that a segment of the people its attracting arent thugs is naive. History proves that.

  16. I've lived on Franklin Ave. for 40+ years and believe me Franklin Lincoln and St. John's have always been crime ridden.

I grew up with the owner of 95 South and his family owned several reputable establishments along Franklin Ave. They still have one other business there besides 95 South. He has done very well for himself. He's a college graduate and has worked for the Probation Department for some years now. He is soon due to retire. Did I hear someone mention money laundering and drugs?????

    1. Money laundering & drugs are the standard take on "95 South" from the new-to-the-neighborhood professionals. You can read all about it on the Brooklynian (which to my mind represents the worst of that group). Anyway, don't know if it's true, but that is the information out there.

  17. The Community Board doesn't strike many as being composed of new to the neighborhood, but has consistently tried to have more police attention paid to this establishment, and not have its permit renewed every time they get the ear of the Liquor Authority and the pct.

  18. From this thread I get the impression that some people believe (and other people fear...) that the average citizen and/or the Community Board has a great deal of authority and discretion on whether to close a bar down.

Thankfully, the process is pretty complex. One needs to actually prove things, not just make accusations on Brooklynian or ILFA.

The bar basically has to be found to be recklessly contributing to the behavior of its patrons. The State Liquor Authority investigates complaints of community members via this process: http://www.trans.abc.state.ny.us/JSP/complaintreg/ComplaintRegistryPage.jsp

The Community Board basically has to wait until a lic is up to renewal (this fall, in the case of I-95 S). Accusations of criminal behavior are essentially not handled by the Community Board or the State Liquor Authority, and should be brought to the attention of the police.

The police will advise the former entities of any findings.

  19. P.S. Brooklynian is having its Spring Happy Hour at the new Nostrand Ave Pub on May 10th! Everyone is welcome, and I hope to see you there.
